Rear Admiral Abu Sayed Mohammed Abdul Awal is a retired senior naval officer and former diplomat with over 36 years of experience in the Bangladesh Navy. He has held prominent positions such as Commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy, Director of Naval Operations, and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff. Internationally, he served as Defence Adviser at the Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka and as High Commissioner to the Maldives, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties. He is a founding member of the Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) and actively contributes to seminars and forums on security, maritime, and geopolitical issues.
He holds a Master of Defence Studies (MDS) and an MBA, alongside training from the Britannia Royal Naval College in the UK. Rear Admiral Awal has moderated and presented at several international conferences, focusing on regional security, maritime strategy, and conflict resolution. His areas of expertise include maritime domain management, counter-terrorism, and migration issues.
